Second of all, poplar strips are to be ripped on-by-two for the floating wooden shelves’ framework. Rip them identically in width to get similar thickness when assembled on edge to form the finished shelves.

Seventh of all, the nail holes should be spackled and all surfaces should be sanded smoothly. To do this step, a putty knife can fill all nail holes which then smoothen by a small sander to the touch perfectly. Get all surfaces ready to be finished.

Eighth of all, each shelving unit’s exterior surfaces are to be painted. Before mounting onto the walls, the shelving units can be finished (or not) depending on personal taste or room decor. In case you want to do the finishing, two coats are recommended. Just let them dry by air.

Ninth of all, on the desired location, cleats are to be leveled and mounted. To get best position for each shelf, be sure to mark both cleat and stud. Pay attention to get them in the same level before screwing into the studs. You do not want to make any mistake in this.

Tenth of all, slip over the hollow opening onto the shelf cleat. On the shelf’s back top edge, counter-sunk screw holes should be pre-drilled. The open back is to be clipped over the cleat which then tapped in place. To secure it through the holes into the cleats, just drive screw them.
